You are seeing a theme over the last few newsletters. Mental health in the workplace is very important to us, not just as a business, but our communities and the impact we have on them. We want to de-stigmatise it and make sure that people have the access to help that they need.
I have a quote on my wall from Maya Angelou “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style”. Maya overcame great obstacles and certainly impacted many people with her writing, activism and compassion. After significant trauma she stopped speaking. A teacher inspired her to write and that is where she found her voice again. Everyone needs someone in their corner. Not everyone does.
As a manager, do you know what to do or say when a member of your team or colleague is in crisis? Our partner, triiyo, works with experts in their field to develop ‘Journeys’, which are communication flows that guide employees and their managers through life transitions as work. They’ve produced a free Mental Health Guide for Managers with a High Risk Script (specific advice on how to manage and support someone in crisis or with suicidal thoughts) here: https://bit.ly/3SfHVN4
We have something great to share with you as part of our network. We are so grateful to be able to bring this to you from the founder Rebecca Grainger. She has offered our network 6 months free access to their platform. The platform sits separately to your company platform so people can confidently access it without fear of being monitored (which can inhibit people getting help). There is a plethora of information and can confidently walk your managers through what do do and say. This is a great way to add to your EVP and truly show that you care about your people.
